USCCA Takes On Milwaukee And Republican National Convention

This past week the nation’s largest and fastest-growing self-defense association dedicated to responsible gun owners was on the ground in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, offering education, training and enhanced self-defense training resources to all attendees.

Among the many highlights of the week, the USCCA hosted a policy symposium in conjunction with the MKE Host Committee. The event entitled, “Defend and Protect: The Critical Role of Safety, Self-Defense & Standing Up for Our Constitutional Rights in the 2024 Election,” was headlined by a sit-down interview with former President Trump’s campaign senior advisor Chris LaCivita and a panel of lawmakers, including Rep. Scott Fitzgerald (R-WI), Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX) and Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL).

During the conversation, Katie Pointer Baney, Managing Director of Government Affairs for the USCCA and the Executive Director of the USCCA For Saving Lives Action Fund, asked about President Trump’s plans surrounding Second Amendment rights, if elected. “We’ll see a continuation of supporting and defending the Second Amendment, and really where that comes into play is, you know, the judiciary,” LaCivita said

Throughout the panel with lawmakers, Rep. Fitzgerald underscored the importance of keeping tabs on state legislatures and their incremental attempts at infringing on Americans’ Second Amendment rights. “I think that we have to be diligent as legislators that protect the Second Amendment to say, ‘No, wait a minute, this is a constitutional guarantee right,’” Fitzgerald said. “So you can continue to pass bill after bill after bill with some cute type of name that would lead people to believe that it’s about security. But we have to be diligent.”

Rep. Cammack took the time to enforce the need to ensure millions of hunters and gun owners are registered to vote in November’s elections. “That is a missed opportunity for us as 2A advocates to make sure that we are actually doing the work to secure that victory, because we cannot turn the corner into January and start talking about how we’re going to do national reciprocity, if we don’t have the votes,” Cammack said.

Associated Press (Minnesota): Minnesota’s Ban On Gun Carry Permits For Young Adults Is Unconstitutional, Appeals Court Rules

July 16, 2024

Steve Karnowski

Minnesota’s law that bans people ages 18 to 20 from getting permits to carry guns in public is unconstitutional, a federal appeals court ruled Tuesday, affirming a lower court decision that concluded the Second Amendment guarantees the rights of young adults to bear arms for self-defense. “Minnesota has not met its burden to proffer sufficient evidence to rebut the presumption that 18 to 20-year-olds seeking to carry handguns in public for self defense are protected by the right to keep and bear arms,” the 8th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled.

BBC News: Biden Calls For Ban On Gun Used To Shoot Trump

Joe Biden has renewed a call for Congress to ban assault rifles, including the model that was used in the failed assassination attempt on Donald Trump. Trump’s ear was grazed by a bullet after a gunman shot at him from a nearby rooftop during a campaign rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday. “An AR-15 was used in the shooting of Donald Trump. This was the assault weapon that killed so many others, including children. It’s time to outlaw them,” Mr Biden told the audience at a convention in Las Vegas.

Yellowhammer (Alabama): Rep. Treadaway: The Alabama Legislature Has Prioritized Public Safety – It’s Time For Cities To Do The Same

July 18, 2024

Allen Treadaway

We’ve all seen the headlines coming out of Montgomery in the last few months. Someone gets killed or seriously injured, the mayor holds a press conference blaming everyone but himself, until the next violent incident, where it just repeats itself. … Mayor Steven Reed wants you to believe that there just isn’t anything he can do. According to him, the violence Alabama’s Capital City is experiencing stems from the Legislature passing a constitutional carry law two years ago. As a retired police officer and chairman of the House Public Safety Homeland Security Committee, I have a few issues with that statement. The first is that the criminals who are killing people would have never gotten a pistol permit to carry what is, in most cases, a stolen firearm. Law-abiding gun owners aren’t the ones firing off 1,000 rounds over a disagreement at a party.
