Gun Ownership Spiking among Women, New Gallup Poll Finds
Signals Growing Diversity For Pro-2A Policies Across Gender & Political Ideology
A new Gallup poll reveals gun ownership rates remain steady in America today. Notably, the results show that among women, gun ownership has spiked in recent years. Compared to 19% in 2007-2012, a third of Republican women (33%) in 2019-2024 now own a firearm. This follows a wide-ranging report by the Wall Street Journal earlier this fall which noted an increase among the number of Democrats, both men and women, who were purchasing firearms for the first time.
The surge among Republican women – and Democrat voters — taking initiative to become responsibly-armed citizens reflects a broader shift taking place throughout the country. Regardless of gender or political affiliation, an increasing number of Americans are embracing gun ownership as a means to assert personal autonomy and ensure the well-being of their families and communities. It also demonstrates that a greater sense of personal responsibility and a clear desire for more control over self-defense and the protection of loved ones continue to be driving forces in gun ownership.
These polling results are not surprising. Many communities across the country are still grappling with rising crime and various public safety challenges. The surge among women specifically represents a powerful cultural shift in attitudes toward empowerment and personal responsibility. It also signals a broader movement toward individual autonomy and a redefined approach to personal safety in today’s uncertain world.
The Action Fund is encouraged by the diversity of American gun owners who continue to be their families’ first line of defense. As an organization, we will continue to invite abiding gun owners from all walks of life to participate in our advocacy efforts, training exercises and our ideological fight to defend Americans’ rights to protect.
We look forward to welcoming many more law-abiding gun owners to our movement who are empowered to safely defend themselves, our freedom and the things they are most thankful for.

A new state tax on guns and ammunition could hurt people who want to protect themselves in Colorado, some residents said, with one county official telling Fox News Digital the move is meant to “turn law-abiding gun owners into criminals” and “reduce gun ownership.” Colorado imposed a 6.5% excise tax on gun sales in addition to pre-existing federal taxes, the latest in a slew of gun control measures that have passed this year. Proposition KK, the first such measure to be established through a ballot referendum, garnered 54.4% of votes on Nov. 5.
Bridge Michigan: With Clock Ticking, Michigan Dems Eye ‘Ghost Gun,’ Bump Stock Bans
Michigan Democrats are mounting a push for additional firearm reforms before they lose control of the state House at the end of the year, pursuing potential votes on proposals to ban “ghost guns,” allow lawsuits against manufacturers and more. “The priority wish list during lame-duck is long, and time is short,” said Jess Travers, a spokesperson for House Democrats, who will lose their two-seat advantage to Republicans in January. But there is a “hopeful optimism — in fact, it is very likely that firearm violence prevention legislation will be part of the remaining weeks of this year,” Travers added.
The Truth About Guns: Congressman Announces New Measure To Abolish ATF
Through the U.S. Department of Justice, the Biden Administration has weaponized the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF), turning it into an agency constantly battling against America’s lawful gun owners and closely regulated gun retailers. In fact, during the past four years, Biden’s ATF has published several final rules, making laws when its real purpose is enforcing them.
The Truth About Guns (Ohio): Ohio Democrats Push 10-Day Waiting Period For Gun Purchases
There are gun purchase waiting periods and then there are “holy crap” long gun purchase waiting periods. And that’s just what two Democratic lawmakers in Ohio want to make happen, the Ohio Capital Journal is reporting. The two have introduced a proposal for a 10-day waiting period for gun purchases, claiming it would reduce violence by giving buyers time to “cool off.” However, the bill’s sponsors, state Reps. Cecil Thomas and Rachel Baker, are relying on questionable studies that have been widely criticized by experts for their methodological flaws and inconsistent results.
