Kamala Harris’ Past Policies Contradict Pro 2A Rhetoric on the Campaign Trail, Underscoring Coalition of Americans Support the Right to Protect

As Election Day closes in, it is becoming more clear that Americans are united across party lines on key policy issues like the right to self-protection and Vice President Kamala Harris has appeared to have changed her rhetoric on firearms in particular. In recent interviews, Harris has repeatedly made her identity as a “gun owner” known, despite a history of advocating for and installing policies restricting the rights of gun owners.

Harris’s opposition to firearms is well documented, despite recent interviews that serve to emphasize a newfound support for the Second Amendment. As San Francisco’s District Attorney, Harris backed “Proposition H” which would have banned handguns in San Francisco had it not been struck down by the judiciary. Furthermore, during her first bid for the White House in 2020, Harris even backed circumventing Congress to pursue an anti-gun agenda, including vocalizing support for the confiscation of firearms, something even then-candidate Joe Biden pointed out was a violation of the Constitution.

For further evidence, simply examine the Biden-Harris administration’s approach to policy on guns over the last four years. Time and time again both the White House has called on Congress to pass and expand so-called “red flag” laws that infringe on both due process and Second Amendment rights of Americans.

Given these past anti-gun policy positions, the drastic shift from Harris underscores what is becoming a pivotal part of this year’s election – appealing to an already wide and still-growing coalition of law-abiding gun owners in an effort to win over gun owners and ultimately the White House.

Therefore, it is critical for gun owners to stay informed and make their voices heard this election cycle. With the electoral stakes higher than ever, the USCCA-FSL Action Fund has remained focused on ensuring law-abiding gun owners across the United States are educated, registered to vote, and driven to the polls. As part of these efforts, the Action Fund will host an upcoming voter registration and educational event in Wisconsin to discuss the importance of gun owners mobilizing to protect their 2A rights.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday tossed out a decision allowing 18-year-olds to openly carry guns during emergencies in Pennsylvania. There were no noted dissents in the high court’s brief order. It lets stand a ban on people aged 18 to 20 carrying guns in public during a declared state of emergency. The case comes amid major shifts in the firearm legal landscape following an influential Supreme Court decision in 2022 that expanded gun rights. The high court said any firearm restrictions must have a strong basis in history.

1819 News (Alabama): House Democrats Take Aim At State’s Constitutional Carry Law In 2025 Session

Several House Democrats have pre-filed bills for the 2025 state legislative session aimed at degrading the state’s permitless carry law after it became a scapegoat for increased gun crime in certain areas. Democratic lawmakers and politicians have frequently blamed the law for increased crime in metro areas. The 2022 law allows lawful residents of the state to carry a firearm on their person or vehicle without a permit

Tampa Free Press: Connecticut “Assault Weapons” Ban Faces Court Challenge

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) is taking on Connecticut’s ban on so-called “assault weapons” in a case that could have major implications for gun rights nationwide. Oral arguments are set for Wednesday, October 16th at 2 p.m. EDT before the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals in New York. The SAF, joined by the Connecticut Citizens Defense League and three private citizens, argues that the Connecticut law unfairly reclassifies many commonly owned firearms as “assault weapons,” even though they were previously considered ordinary firearms by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

The Truth About Guns: New York Governor Signs New Anti-Gun Bills

New York’s already beleaguered gun owners are facing even more restrictions thanks to Gov. Kathy Hochul recently signing several more arguably unconstitutional measures into law. On October 9, Hochul signed six new anti-gun bills into law. One bill, SB 6649, infringes on the First Amendment rights of licensed gun dealers and gunsmiths not by telling them what they can’t say, but telling them what they must say. The measure requires gun retailers to post within their place of business a warning about the “risks that come with owning a firearm.” It also requires gun sellers to provide information about the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline to buyers at the point of sale.
