Gun Sales Continue Uptick Ahead of November Election

Historically, election years tend to send an uptick in firearms purchases but new data suggests that gun sales have surged since Vice President Kamala Harris became the Democratic nominee, according to FBI background check figures. Harris has thrust Second Amendment issues into the spotlight this campaign cycle by touting her gun ownership on the debate stage and in recent high profile interviews. More notably, the rise in gun sales could be a sign that Americans are rightly concerned she will make good on previous plans to ban guns if elected.

According to new data detailed in the Washington Examiner, “Since July, month over month sales have ticked higher by about 125,000 with the background check count up some 260,000. Those checks include more than just gun sales.” This past month also marks the 62nd consecutive month that gun sales have risen above 1 million.

With Election Day fast-approaching, it’s evident that Harris is attempting to appeal to a wide array of voters. The data suggests that some are wary Vice President Harris will protect their Second Amendment freedoms and may not be buying her recent shift in rhetoric regarding firearm ownership, including her own.

Harris’s claims of gun ownership do not align with her historical policies. Both the vice president and her running mate, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz have been staunch opponents of the Second Amendment and gun rights during their time in office at the federal and state level. Notably, the Biden-Harris Administration has made repeated claims to install policies that would infringe upon Americans’ right to self defense, including so-called “red flag” laws. Governor Walz has previously pushed a so-called “assault weapons” ban on the campaign trail, and in his 2023 State of the State address, classified self-defense firearms as “weapons of war.”

As the election approaches, law-abiding Americans are coming to the important realization that their 2A rights may be on the line. This underscores why it is critically important for gun owners to be informed as they head to the polls in November.

Daily Caller: Conservatives Reveal Plan To Awaken Sleeping Giant Voter Demographic That Could Decide White House, Senate

“What people miss about firearm ownership, and gun owners specifically, is they’re not super partisan, and they’re not necessarily overly political. I think we have a tendency in the political space, as pundits or as operatives to think of this being like a really polarizing, divisive issue, and the reality is it just isn’t for a majority of gun owners. They own firearms. They have them in their house. They grow up with them. They hunt with them. They have them for self-defense, and it’s just a part in a way of life,” Katie Pointer Baney, the executive director for the United States Concealed Carry Association for Saving Lives Action Fund told the Caller of their GOTV efforts. She added that as a part of the group’s messaging they are telling gun owners to keep exercising their freedoms, they need to be involved in the political process.

Associated Press (Massachusetts): Gun Activists Say They Are Aiming To Put Massachusetts Gun Law Repeal On 2026 Ballot

Massachusetts gun advocates announced Tuesday that they have gathered enough signatures to place a question on the 2026 ballot that would repeal a sweeping new gun law that cracks down on privately made, unserialized ghost guns, criminalizes possession of bump stocks and trigger cranks and requires applicants for a gun license to complete live-fire training. The law also expands the state’s red flag law to let police as well as health care and school officials alert the courts if they believe someone with access to guns poses a danger and should have their firearms taken away, at least temporarily.

The Truth About Guns: Washington Court Says AR-Style Rifles Not Protected Under Second Amendment

Using what seems to be faulty reasoning concerning the “common use” of AR-style rifles for self-defense purposes, a district court in Washington State has denied a request for a preliminary injunction against the state’s so-called “assault weapons” ban. On September 26, the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Washington in the case Banta v. Ferguson denied the request for an injunction because, the ruling said, AR-15s are not weapons that are commonly owned for self-defense and well-tailored for that purpose. Instead, the court ruled that common semi-automatic rifles owned by millions of lawful Americans for self-defense and other purposes are better suited for offensive combat.

CNN: Supreme Court Declines To Hear First Amendment Challenges In Gun Display And Confederate Statue Protest Cases

The Supreme Court declined to hear several First Amendment appeals on Monday, ditching a case that dealt with a requirement that gun dealers in Maryland display suicide prevention literature and another case regarding anti-Confederate war monument protesters who were arrested for blocking a street. The guns dispute concerned a Maryland county’s ordinance that requires all firearms or ammunition stores to display literature “relating to gun safety, gun training, suicide prevention, mental health, and conflict resolution.”
