Background Checks In Colorado Spike As Anti-Gun Legislation Signed into Law
Coloradans Are Seeing the Writing on the Wall and Taking Action to Protect Themselves
As Colorado Governor Jared Polis and other anti-gun Colorado lawmakers have forged ahead with their anti-gun agenda, Coloradans are taking their safety into their own hands. On April 10, Governor Polis signed SB 003 into law in the name of “public safety” despite concerns from many law-abiding Coloradans on the dangers the bill poses. In fact, many have referred to the proposal as one of the “most restrictive gun laws in the country.” Moreover, in this legislative session alone, 22 bills relating to gun rights had been introduced in the Colorado state legislature.
Recent data released by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) reveals that in March, Colorado saw a sharp increase in background checks for firearms. As Complete Colorado reports, the number of background checks nearly doubled in March to 68,099 compared to January’s 37,519.
While the number of background checks run is not a direct indicator of the number of firearms purchased nor the number of first-time gun owners, it does shed new light on the growing number of Coloradans taking measures to exercise their Constitutional rights in the wake of overly-restrictive laws being considered by the legislature in Denver.
This uptick also reveals that Coloradans recognize and understand the actions being taken in the legislature to restrict their fundamental right of self-defense and are acting accordingly. In the last several months, Coloradans have mobilized in record numbers to make their voices heard when SB 003 was being considered. This quick action to make pro-Second Amendment voices heard kept SB 003 from being an even more misguided bill.
As Coloradans and Americans nationwide continue to take their self-defense into their own hands, the Action Fund stands ready to provide them the resources and training necessary to ensure they can safely and responsibly do so.

FOX News: House Republicans Push Nationwide Concealed Carry As Trump Says Second Amendment Has No Borders
House Republicans are renewing efforts to expand concealed carry rights across state lines with a bill known as the Constitutional Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act. The legislation would require states to recognize concealed carry permits issued by other states, much like they recognize out-of-state driver’s licenses. “There’s a lot of words there, but it’s a very common sense, simple piece of legislation,” Rep. Richard Hudson, R-N.C., the bill’s lead sponsor, told “America Reports” Thursday. “It says that every state should recognize the concealed carry permissions of the other states.”
Breitbart: Legislators Urge HHS Sec. Kennedy To End CDC/NIH Spending On Gun Control
Rep. Diana Harshbarger (R-TN) and 14 other representatives are urging Health and Human Services Sec. Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to end CDC and NIH spending on gun control. In an April 10, 2025, letter posted by Gun Owners of America, Harshbargar opened by writing, “We write today to urge you to protect the Second Amendment from attacks by a partisan and weaponized Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and National Institutes for Health (NIH)–which became a dangerous threat to gun ownership under the Biden administration.”
Guns.com: Oregon Lawmakers Move To Smother Gun Stores In Red Tape
Last week, the Democrat-controlled Oregon House Judiciary Committee approved a proposed state gun dealer licensing program. The measure, HB 3076, passed the committee on April 8 and will proceed to the House floor for further consideration. The 27-page bill carries the broad strokes of the scheme that pro-gun advocates warn are meant solely to obliterate the state’s legal gun dealers. “HB 3076, as amended, creates absurd and draconian new restrictions on gun dealers in an effort to shut down as many firearms businesses as possible,” said the Oregon Firearms Federation in a statement. “However, the new rules also apply to home-based FFLs and will apply at gun shows where the requirements will be impossible to comply with.”
The Hill: DOJ Establishing Task Force To Push Trump Gun Agenda
The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday created a Second Amendment Task Force to advance President Trump’s agenda on gun legislation while easing regulation on ownership laws. “The Task Force is principally charged with developing and executing strategies to use litigation and policy to advance, protect, and promote compliance with the Second Amendment,,” Attorney General Pam Bondi wrote in the memo establishing the task force. Bondi is set to serve as chair of the special unit while Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche was appointed to serve as vice chair.
